Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) systems often include networks of automated components, such as monitoring equipment, environmental controls and sensors that communicate by device-to-device or device-to-cloud connections. Many of these systems could easily become entry points to an organization’s operation, and are specifically vulnerable to the quantum threat. For example, if attackers could use quantum computers to decrypt or modify those data streams, it might easily lead to faulty decision making in industrial processes, the interception of commercially sensitive data, or potential safety hazards in critical infrastructure.
