Senior Firmware Engineer

💼 About the role

We are looking for a skilled Senior Firmware Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing secure firmware solutions for embedded systems, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data throughout the product life cycle. This role requires expertise in firmware development and a basic understanding of cryptography.

 ⚒️ What you’ll be doing

  • Work within the engineering team to design and implement Post-Quantum secure firmware for embedded systems, focusing on security best practices, threat mitigation, performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Use a hardware-software co-design process to ensure secure integration of firmware with system components.
  • Develop and maintain security protocols, encryption algorithms, and secure boot mechanisms.
  • Implement and test security features to ensure absence of vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to firmware  including the requirements, design specifications, and testing results.
  • Follow and improve the software development life cycle, from inception and design, through to development and deployment 
  • Integrate firmware development into CI/CD frameworks
  • Debug and troubleshoot firmware and hardware issues, working closely with hardware engineers.
  • Participate in reviews, ensuring compliance with security standards and best practices
  • Monitor and respond to emerging security threats and vulnerabilities in the firmware.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest security trends, technologies, and compliance requirements relevant to embedded systems.

🎯 Required Skills And Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded secure firmware development
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Assembly and Python.
  • Strong understanding of embedded systems architecture.
  • Proficient in using debugging tools and version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with security practices such as threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and secure coding standards.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies, including Agile/Scrum
  • Experience with side-channel counter measures and/or fault tolerance code.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded platforms (e.g., RISC-V, ARM).
  • Knowledge of compliance standards such as FIPS-140-3, NIST, PSA or Common Criteria.
  • Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and protocols (e.g., AES, RSA, ECC) and their implementation.
  • Exposure to modern cryptography: Post-Quantum cryptography, side-channel and implementation attacks, countermeasures and security testing processes
  • Familiarity with hardware security features (e.g., TPM, HSM) and secure boot processes.
  • Familiarity with TrustZone or similar.
