Here at PQShield, one of the many perks we offer our team is a Giving Back Day. This means each that colleague gets one day of paid leave annually to volunteer for a charity or approved community organisation of their choice. It’s a fantastic way for our team to engage in activities they love while feeling supported! This year, alongside a team-sponsored 10-mile walk for the Breast Cancer Now charity, our Software Development Manager, Errol Sloman, spent time as a chaplain at a local prison. He was excited to share more about his rewarding experience.
Errol explains: “At PQShield, we’re given a day each year to volunteer for charitable work. As an existing volunteer chaplain at a prison, I chose to spend my Giving Back Day there. During this time, I helped a prisoner connect with a local church upon release into a new town. I also supported a group of prisoners who wanted to start a regular bible study group. Throughout the day, I listened and prayed with prisoners, helping them work through personal issues.
Thanks to PQShield’s flexible working arrangements, I’m grateful to be able to support prisoners during the week as well. Most prisoners are released eventually, and prison chaplains provide spiritual support, encouragement, and hope, helping them reintegrate into society as better and changed individuals.
